We went to the circus...

...and it was just not that fun! LOL

I love the circus and I was so excited to take Isabella for the first time. I was afraid she was going to freak out when she saw the clowns, people dressed as creepy animals and the darkness inside. Well, once again she surprised us. She LOVED the guys dressed as duckies and the guy dressed as cat. She wanted to follow them, touch them and squealed with happiness when she saw them. She was not scared of the elephants or the darkness.

But then... the clowns encouraged the crowd to cheer. A couple of YAYs! OOOhhhhs!and claps later, we had a screaming toddler in our hands. She hates cheering. Silly girl. I had to take her outside to distract her. Then, she started getting sleepy. The show started at 7:30pm and they decided to have a 30-minute intermission (the elephant rides, face painting and general memorabilia sales might have had something to do with that). As soon as they started the second part and turned off the lights, the crowd started clapping and we had to leave. She was just to tired to recover from the cheering trauma.

Now, that was Isabella's experience. Mine? I was horrified. Terrified to the point of nausea. Why? You ask me. Because I was sure someone was going to die at the circus last night. It was that precarious. 5 minutes into the performance, this lady comes out on a beautiful, gigantic horse. She rides no more than a couple of laps and the horse slides and falls. Badly. It was scary. The ringmaster then went on to tell us that she had sustain a minor injury and that they were going to go on with the show. After some jump roping and hula hooping (yawn) the clowns came out. I felt safe. They were cute. And silly the way they were supposed to be. The kids loved them. But then... The boy blown decided to climb onto the side railing and fell on his face. It was an ugly fall. I was sorry for him. He kept going (show must go on!) but boy that must have hurt.

At this point, I was feeling rather uncomfortable and very fearful for the safety of the people working at the circus. But it wasn't over yet. The ringmaster himself went on the Wheel of Death. One of these things:

Doesn't that look like something you need to be really good at? Well, he was not. After an almost fall as he was trying to jump rope walking on the outside of the thing without any sort of harness or safety net, I had to leave the room. I was nauseous and absolutely positive that guy was going to fall and die right there. On the first time I took my daughter to the circus. Not fun for my scrapbooking journaling right? I was nauseous and I didn't go back inside until the act was done. Ben told me he did the same thing blindfolded and that he almost fell again. Some people said it was part of the act, but the look on his face when he almost fell didn't fool me. It was scary!

The best part of the evening was definitely dinner at Twigs.

I guess when I wish for an evening of making memories I'll make sure to specify pleasant ones!

The circus always gave me the creeps, but the nicest, cutest thing is she not getting scared with anything but the cheering crowd.

Dear Bella: auntie Andrea is a big big fan of yours! :)
